Happy Monday Firstie Families!,
This week SPRING begins! And in 1st grade we are so excited to keep blooming! This week we have a Family Homework Project in place of our weekly book report. We have been comparing the past and the present and looking at how things have changed over the years. Last week you interviewed a family member about how school has changed. This week you are to pick an object and create a timeline of how it has changed over the years. Please see the assignment page found in your homework packets. You can create the timeline on any paper of your choice. However, if you would like to complete the timeline on construction paper I would be happy to provide you with some. Let me know if you need some paper from me.
We had a very successful St. Patrick's Day fundraiser and pancake breakfast! Thank you to all the colunteers and donations! We couldn't do it without you!
Please click on the title of this post to view this week's newsletter. A paper copy can be found in your students green folder.
Thanks for all that you do!
Hello Wonderful Families,
Happy Monday! I hope you are adjusting to the time change. I know it through me off a bit. However, I am happy to report that our lovely Firsties seem to have adjusted well.
We were able to complete a series of sight word testing using a new program called ESGI. The program allows me to test my students on topics like sight words and print the results immediatly into flash cards that I can send home to you. Most of the class recieved a set today to practice for our next assessment. Please practice these words with them nightly as part of their homework.
Weekly Book Report
You will also notice in the weekly homework packet, that the weekly book report is a little different. We have been studying how things have changed over time, phones, transporation, homes, etc. The report this week is based upon this idea. Students have been asked, with the help of thier families, to interview a person over 50 years old and ask them how they have seen things change. Their is a list of questions on the back of the report sheet.
This week our P.E. day has been changed to Wednesday. Please plan accordingly when students get dressed tomorrow. Next week we will be back on Tuesday's.
St. Patrick's Day
Dinner Aution Item
The 1st grade class will be painting and decorating a wooden cooler cart to be auctioned off at this year's dinner auction. I will be sure to send pictures as we make progress.
